Challenges
The mobility of workers and scholars is ever stronger than before. However it is not easy for expatriates or international students to settle down and integrate in the host country. They are inevitably confronted with challenges from security to insecurity, from familiarity to unfamiliarity. The cross-cultural adaptation movements are often erratic, with many ups and downs, sometimes tumbling forward, and sometimes propelled backward.
Although the day-to-day experiences of international workers and students vary, they have many perplexities in common. For instance, how to connect their prior working/learning experiences to the current situation? How to deal with the professional pressures and second language anxiety? What constitutes socially appropriate behavior in the new cultural context? How to communicate and collaborate effectively with people from different cultures?
