Intercultural training programme for business professionals
Culture shapes our way of thinking and behaving. To understand how to communicate/ work effectively with the overseas Chinese, an overview of the Chinese cultural factors is necessary. Although there is no one Chinese culture, with respect to the country’s geography, history, social movement, and regional differences’; a multifaceted outlook on Chinese culture will not jeopardize the assumption of some typical cultural elements demonstrated or interpreted as the Chinese way of life.
Course Content
Chinese communication is situated in relationships rather than in individual persons. Participants to the training course will be knowledgeable about key aspects of Chinese speaking practices such as Guaxi (social relations), Renqing (favor) and Mianze (face).
Issues regarding the transforming Chinese culture will be discussed. Business cases will be presented to show the complexity of the contemporary Chinese corporate cultures, and how foreign companies deal with these (aspects of Interllectual Property, information sharing, generational gaps, ..).
The objectives of the workshop/seminar/ are that, by course end, participants will:
- Have an understanding about the diversity and complexity of the business environment in China
- Be aware of the importance of building and maintaining social business networks in China
- Be able to negotiate appropriately and effectively with the Chinese
- Be able to socialise harmoniously in China.
